SAT Test Information

What is the SAT

What originally began as a series of Army IQ tests evolved into the SAT test we know of today. Since the early 1900s, U.S. universities and colleges have used the SAT to standardize the admissions process and select the most qualified candidates from more than two million applicants each year. Although some colleges and universities have made the submission of standardized test scores optional, the vast majority of schools still require and utilize these scores as part of the admissions process.

SAT Test Format

The SAT measures a student’s skills in three core areas: Critical Reading, Math, and Writing. Students in grades 10 - 12 take the SAT so that they can submit to colleges as part of the college application process. The SAT is composed of 10 sections—a 25-minute essay, six 25-minute sections, two 20-minute sections, and one 10-minute section. Total testing time is 3 hours and 45 minutes.
